June 2012 Monthly Horoscopes & Overview

Planetary Ingresses and Lunations:
June 4th: Neptune turns retrograde
Neptune, one of the two outermost planets, has such a long orbit that it spends fourteen years in one sign! Although we here on Earth can’t see this planet without a powerful telescope, astronomers have plotted its course with extreme accuracy. Like all other planets, Neptune has a retrograde period; that is, if we could see it with the naked eye, it would appear to slow down, stop and then temporarily turn backward in its orbit. After five months, it slows down again, turns around and resumes its normal direction.
Since Neptune is retrograde forty-three percent of the time, by itself, it’s not an enormously important factor. But the stationary points — the points at which the planet seems to turn around in its orbit — are enormously important. It’s at these times when the energy and qualities of Neptune are most evident.
Since this pokey planet can spend months at the same Zodiac degree when it is stationary, astrologers look for the span of just a few days that pinpoints when Neptune actually begins moving from the stationary point. It’s on these days when you’re likely to see Neptune’s influence on the news — drug raids, new developments in the healing arts, magicians and escape artists, criminal activity, the Mafia and the oil industry, to name just a few.
What about on a personal level? Neptune is related to your creativity and spiritual life. When Neptune is retrograde, you’re more likely to be attentive to these areas of your life, and give them voice. You may not present the efforts of your inspirations right away — that may wait till Neptune has gone direct — but you will cherish them all the more for waiting. Keep a dream journal, for your dreams are likely to be vivid and meaningful during Neptune Retrograde, if you take the time to interpret them.
June 4th: Lunar Eclipse in Sagittarius
During the Sagittarius Full Moon, you’re likely to be in a jolly mood that makes you feel truly alive. Recent steps you have taken to add some zest to your life are working. No longer plagued by feelings of boredom, you are more able to enjoy getting up when the promise of a fun day lies ahead of you. Give yourself a pat on the back for taking charge of your own well being.
A trip you’ve planned might be approaching now, or you may be pleasantly surprised at how well you’re grasping new things. Your bright spirits won’t go unnoticed by others, either. Spend time with a group of pals doing what you enjoy best: There is great fun to be had. You may be feeling lucky for no particular reason, so impulses may reign. Your positive attitude generates goodwill from others. Even doom and gloom folks can’t get you down! The days look too bright and glorious for any negative vibes.
Make sure to accept an invitation to a fun event where you can meet others. Your energetic presence will have people gravitating towards you — which is definitely a plus for adding new digits to your little black book. Just watch the tendency to chat your listener’s ear off or to be stuck in your head, clueless to subtle hints around you. As the moon begins to wane, you might want to ease up on the heavy workouts.
June 7th: Mercury moves into Cancer
Under the influence of Mercury in Cancer, and depending on how it interacts with planets in your birth chart, you may find yourself thinking with your feelings. Logic and analysis take a backseat to your emotions, and you may make decisions based on gut instincts, just because something feels right to you in the moment. If someone wants to convince you, they’ll have to appeal to your emotions, especially to your need to feel safe and secure.
You may have a tendency to hold back your thoughts instead of communicating more directly. You might even expect that the people close to you psychically intuit what you’re thinking and feeling, with the result being major miscommunications and misunderstandings. Don’t sit and stew in your emotional swirl — just say it!
On a more positive note, you’ll be able to think resourcefully during this transit, and can have an excellent mind for business. It’s a good time to plan for future security, and come up with ideas for strengthening your financial foundation.
It’s possible that you’ll develop more of an interest in learning about cooking, sewing, and other domestic matters, or want to read up on improving parenting skills. You could also long to learn more about history, especially your family ancestors, and may want to work on a scrap book or family tree.
June 11th: Jupiter moves into Gemini
While Jupiter is in Gemini, and depending on how it affects the other planets in your birth chart, you long to expand your mind and explore new realms of knowledge. Following your curiosity can lead to unexpected opportunities, adventures and connections with fascinating new friends. If you’re not satisfying your need for mental stimulation, boredom and restlessness can result.
You thrive on variety during this transit. Your interests could span a broad range of subjects that may appear to have nothing to do with each other, but you enjoy speculating about the possible connections. Multi-tasking will also be appealing, as it will be more exciting for you to juggle more than one project at a time. You might not have a lot of patience for committing yourself to just one time-consuming, long-term endeavor.
Learning a foreign language comes more easily to you now, and you may find yourself connecting with people from different countries and cultures. You might also be drawn to studying philosophy or religion. You’ve got a gift for expressing yourself, and this is an auspicious transit for writing, teaching, or public speaking.
Just beware of a tendency toward intellectual superiority or arrogance, and remember that being an excellent communicator means both talking and listening. You’ll be able to make the most of this influence if you keep your mind open to other people’s ideas and perspectives.
June 19th: New Moon in Gemini
The Gemini New Moon stirs up a plethora of fancies in your head; so many, in fact, that you may walk into a wall if you don’t pay attention to where you’re going! Those who find you staring off into space think you are in a fog belt, when you are actually immobilized by thoughts of a gazillion possibilities. You won’t need too much outside stimulation to incite more activity in your head, you’ve got plenty of your own.
Maybe there is a best-selling novel brewing in your brain that begs to be brought to life. Maybe you’re thinking about learning some new languages. You may even want to learn something new and completely different.
During this lunar influence, you won’t be short on ideas. Your main challenge is to pick and choose the ones that are most pragmatic and beneficial to you at this time. Then, begin the process of turning fancies into realities. You should spend some time alone and meditate on your options, even though you may be eager to share your feelings and thoughts.
Any person in your company will get an earful, probably more than they can keep up with. You may not have it all worked out before you take those first baby steps, but making firm decisions will be half the battle for you.
June 20th: The Sun moves into Cancer
Under the influence of the Sun in Cancer, and depending on how it interacts with your birth chart, you might long for deeper connections and a sense of belonging. Familiarity and security seem more important than meeting new people or exploring new places or ideas. Your impulse now is to strengthen bonds with your partner, family and close friends.
The past may have a strong pull now, and you could find yourself lost in nostalgia, flipping through photo albums or grandma’s old memorabilia. You might also be drawn to reconnect with people from your past, or to revisit your old haunts. Traditions are more attractive now, and you could even have a tendency to be a bit old-fashioned.
You have an increased desire for security and safety, and are likely to hold onto what you’ve got, rather than over-spending. This is a good time for shoring up your resources and strengthening your base of support. Your business instincts are sound, especially when it comes to planning for the future. Just watch out for clinging too tenaciously to something that seems to bring security, but is actually holding you back.
Your emotional life wants more attention during this time, and your feelings might change like the tides — laughing one minute and crying the next. You may also be more sensitive than usual, and could be more likely to take things personally. Being overly prickly is a sign that you need more nurturing self-care, and perhaps more time to retreat into your shell.
June 25th: Saturn turns direct
Saturn is a gaseous planet that happens to be very buoyant, because it is primarily composed of extremely light gases. Saturn could float in a galaxy-sized ocean, whereas all the other planets would either sink or disintegrate. Saturn’s interior is hot, and it radiates more energy than it receives from the Sun.
Saturn has twenty-one moons, but it’s best known for its beautiful rings, which are clearly visible with a telescope. Saturn takes twenty-eight to twenty-nine years to orbit around the Sun, although a day on Saturn last only ten-and-a-half hours.
From Earth’s perspective, Saturn appears retrograde about 40% of the time — almost half the year! During the retrograde period, internal discipline and structure are the focus. Restriction can mark the passing of Saturn’s retrograde motion over a sensitive spot on the natal chart — areas that require concentrated effort to correct. When retrograde, Saturn is visible for much of the night, and is at its brightest.
Saturn is the outermost visible planet in our solar system, and has long been related to limits, boundaries, restrictions, time and reality. Saturn’s return to its natal position every twenty-eight to twenty-nine years indicates the beginning of the cycle of adulthood as Saturn begins its journey around one’s chart for a second time.
The second Saturn Return occurs at ages fifty-six to fifty-eight, and is a time for reflection on the previous cycle of accomplishments and preparation for Saturn’s third and final journey, the age of wisdom.
June 27th: Mercury moves into Leo
While Mercury is in Leo, and depending on how this transit influences your birth chart, your mind may be filled with big ideas and grand plans. You’re less concerned about the details and more interested in the broader vision of what you want to create. Confidence in your own opinions is strong — maybe too strong! Watch out for arrogance or getting too wedded to being right.
Your mind is youthful and curious, helping you think creatively and get a fresh perspective on an old problem. Look with the innocent eyes of a child, open to being surprised by the wonder of it all.
Warm, fun and lively interactions characterize this transit. Your conversational style might be very entertaining now, and you may find yourself being the life of the party. You’ve got a flair for drama, and could have a tendency to embellish stories with extravagant details. You express yourself with authority, and can inspire other people with your words — as long as you’re speaking from your heart and not your ego.
Romance could be front and center in your mind, and you might feel the urge to express your feelings by writing a love letter, poem or song for your sweetheart. Creative energy is high, and your brilliance and uniqueness can shine through your words, whether spoken or written.
June 27th: Venus turns direct
Venus, reputed as the ‘Goddess of Love,’ is the second closest planet to the Sun and has an orbit of 225 days. Because it’s in between the Earth and the Sun, it is never more than 48° from the Sun from our viewpoint. Venus has hot, perpetual acid rain and a dense atmospheric pressure. It spins on its axis in the opposite direction from other planets: If you were on Venus, the Sun would rise in the West and set in the East.
Venus takes much, much longer to rotate on its axis than it does to orbit the Sun, which means that a Venus day is longer than the Venus year! Five Venus revolutions take exactly 8 Earth years; when plotted on a zodiac wheel, they create a perfect 5-pointed star.
From Earth’s perspective, Venus appears to go retrograde only seven percent of the time because it is so close to the Earth. When Venus does go retrograde, it’s time to mull over the quality of your romantic relationships. It’s usually not a great time to take permanent action in love; it’s more suited for working things out and focusing on self-love.
Like Mercury, Venus is both a morning and an evening star and is beautifully brilliant due to its proximity and its highly reflective atmosphere. At its brightest, it is the brightest planet visible to the eye.
Venus returns to its natal position in a chart about once a year. When it does, the focus tends to be on relationships, values, possessions, artistic endeavors and money.
