Forecast for June 18-24, 2012
By Kathy Biehl
Summer’s here! Life is supposed to magically flip back into lazy hazy days now, right? Not this year. Intense is the new normal, and this week drives that home.
The action is nonstop, with four big events, movement toward a fifth and very little down time. That last is a necessity, though, and it’s largely up to you to carve it out for yourself. Periodically take a break, clear your mind, regroup and refocus. That’s the strategy to navigate not only this extraordinary week, but also the foreseeable future.
Summer officially begins on Wednesday, with the solstice (at 7:09 PM EDT). The Sun’s annual move into Cancer is a major turning of the year and sets the tone for the next three months. All the current astrological influences color what we’ll be experiencing throughout the entire summer. Read the rest of this forecast with that in mind. It applies until the middle of September.
Tuesday’s New Moon in Gemini renews the reminder to reconsider your what flows in and out of your head and the vehicles your mind and body use to get around. All are ripe for a new phase. That’s the impetus of the Gemini end of the current eclipse cycle, and it’s getting whipped up by bigger-is-better Jupiter settling into that sign for a year’s stay. We’ll be hearing more and more from old thoughts, old paradigms, old teachings, etc. over the next few weeks, as Jupiter moves toward a meeting with the South Node of the past (which will be exact next month).
Wait a second — did I just say New Moon in Gemini? Didn’t we have one last month? Yes, indeedy; good call, all you attentive readers. May’s New Moon solar eclipse was at the very first degree of Gemini; this month’s is at the next to last. Two consecutive New Moons in the same sign is like the cosmos saying, “And we really mean it!” Read more in my mooncast, which will be on the site sometime Monday.
Issues of reciprocity, fairness, negotiation, obligations and restructuring in relationships and agreements are under the magnifying glass all week. We can’t look away. Questions tug at us relentlessly. What’s working? What isn’t? What’s crushing your back? What has run its course? Even if we figure out what we want to do — even if we actually start discussing what we want to do — actual movement is a ways off. Saturn, the slowest influence in the sky, is coming to a stop in the sign of relationships, Libra. On Friday, he enters the exact degree and minute where he will turn direct next Tuesday. It’s just not time yet. We have to lie in the beds we made just a bit longer.
Besides, more fundamental issues are screaming for attention. On Sunday, Uranus and Pluto finally complete the square they’ve been moving toward. This tense, action-demanding aspect is beneath the general discomfort that’s been so endemic. These two planets (and a big puh-leeeez to not treating Pluto as a planet for astrological purposes) are agents of change, which disrupt and transform, respectively, everything they touch, and their brewing battle has been rocking and stressing out the very foundations of our lives and institutions. Now the pressure is reaching the point that something must give way. Stress lines are fracturing, situations breaking apart, attachments shattering.
This is no one-off, but the first in a series of seven exact squares between now and 2015. The first round may be more muffled or internal or — dare I say it? — gentler than the ones to follow, because of when it occurs: while most of us in the Western Hemisphere are sleeping (5:12 AM EDT), during a void of course Moon. Developments that occur when the Moon is void (done making major aspects before entering the next sign) have a way of unraveling later. This is fitting for the first in a long sequence of change aspects. Whatever goes down now is not the end of the story, but the beginning of a process that will morph and morph and morph…and deposit each of us into a completely new way of living.
This ongoing aspect is so important that I have written a separate overview, so that my explanation has staying power beyond a weekly forecast. You can read it here.
The only scheduled breathing room in all this activity is Thursday, when the Moon is void of course from mid-day on. Otherwise, it’s up to you to stake out down time. Take a break, clear your mind, regroup, refocus and remember what’s important. You’ll be all the more effective when you jump back into the fray.

Monday: Desire is a huge factor as we roll into this monumental week. What’s likely to make it huge is sensing that the object of yours is just out of reach. Instead of letting frustration color the day — which it could — use that unattainability as incentive to reconsider your attachment to that desire. Evening has a forceful break-out vibe. Following it leads to stabilizing. Sounds like the motivation to get out of stuck places, and how.
Tuesday: Overnight your psyche works out what happened yesterday. You’re moving into a healthier, more mature and responsible expression of your energy and drive. The New Moon in Gemini occurs just after 11 AM EDT. (Read about it in my mooncast, which will be posted by Monday afternoon.) This re-emphasizes the fresh start potential of the Gemini New Moon we had last month. You aren’t likely to sense the reboot at first, because the Moon immediately goes void of course for two and a half hours. She emerges from the void in super-sensitive Cancer. Look for personal clarity and understanding, but don’t expect to find nurturing outside yourself, for now. Softness, kindness and the transcendence of artistic or spiritual connection are on tap for the evening; plan your schedule accordingly. (Mine’s already in line; I’ve got a cast reunion of an incredible all-woman production from six and a half years ago. How many astro-connections can you spot in that sentence?)
Wednesday: The early morning is uneasy, but the aspects all propel you toward breaking out of constraints (in perspective or situations), becoming aware of desires and obsessions, honoring your heart’s dictates and making a choice based on them instead of on compulsion. While this process is going on, messages bring you down to earth like a splash of cold water or slap in the face. (You may do the same favor for other people.) They have staying power, because they are still hanging in the air at the summer solstice (7 PM EDT), when the Sun moves into Cancer. Your world quickly tilts, but it’s a good thing. Twists, turns, monkey wrenches and out-of-the-blue developments give relationships, financial issues and desires a new lease on life. Like the messages earlier in the day, this tilt has staying power, too. Not everything, or more likely everyone, is going to take kindly to the tilt. Too bad; there’s no going back.
Thursday: With the dawn EDT your mind and will link up and a way opens to walk your talk. A realization could be the trigger, as you process something that you’ve already come across and suddenly your drive kicks in to implement it. No easing into the day, not with this kick. Ironically….except for a brief window before mid-morning, you can’t really act on it effectively just yet. The moment your heart and mind get on board with it, the Moon goes void of course for the rest of the day (12:49 PM – 11:48 PM EDT). Inside the void, there are absolutely no aspects whatsoever. Sit. Ponder. Relax. Ponder some more. Just be. Saturn enters begins his slow stationing direct tomorrow, and you can not make a single thing happen. (Except maybe dinner.)
Friday: The skies are fostering growth, evolution, approaching every aspect of life in a new-and-improved way. Help yourself to the optimism and goodwill that permeate the morning and spread them around. They blossom into lovely social developments and position you for a well-needed change of schedule. Keep that lightness in your heart. Stakes grow higher, situations darker and the energy more intense as the day progresses. Barriers are begging to be broken in the evening. Some of them could be physical; some might be unexpected. (Can you spot the recipe for accidents?) Remain alert; take extra care on the road especially. Soundtrack: “We’re Not Gonna Take It”. Movie scene: Howard Beale’s “I’m as mad as hell and I’m not going take this anymore!” rant in Network.
Saturday: How strange to feel so good and confident about yourself and yet so out of sorts with others. Appreciation and validation are definitely inside jobs today. If you demand them from others, not only are they not going to hand over what you seek, but they’re also going to leave you feeling unpleasant and uncomfortable. Remember that everyone is under the pressure of the Uranus/Pluto square, which finally becomes exact in the morning.. Find stability and grounding within. They’ll help you navigate the pervasive edginess of the evening and reach blissful waters as the night winds down.
Sunday: The pressure hits a peak overnight, when Uranus and Pluto make clashing contact at last. Early morning mental ramblings are more important and revealing than usual. What has split open inside you? It’s going to be easiest to see wreckage and debris around you, since the Moon follows the clash by entering fault-finding Virgo. As with yesterday, you are likely to be satisfied with yourself and pretty much no one else. Repairs and bridges are possible late in the evening.
